At a Fourth of July celebration in Wyaconda, Ella was met with shocked gasps and snickers when she read the Declaration of Independence. She hated being gawked at, but took up an offer to tour Chicago at Lewis Epstein's museum. This convinced her reluctant parents to exhibit Ella instead of work on their farm. For 17 years, Ella and her parents toured the country at various circuses, including Barnum & Bailey, Buffalo Bill’s Wild West Show and Sells-Floto. Ella's dream of providing a home for her parents came true at the turn of the century when she bought a house in Harmony Grove near Gorin. 54 years after dying of tuberculosis, a marker was placed on her grave that reads, 'This memorial made possible by folks who knew Ella.'

He worked for the county Parks Department for seven years and ran a campaign for alderman from his hospital bed in 1957. Two years later, a broken ankle and an early morning house call helped him befriend Dr. Joseph Prezio. John was at 8 ft 0 at the time and would shrink to 7 ft 8.25 by 1969 due to his curved spine. Along with the Sisters of Mercy, Joseph cared for John until his death from kidney failure and kept his 6 foot long crutches until 2015, when he donated them to the Mutter Museum in Philadelphia for a John exhibit.

The embarrassed king gave John £20 (over £4,000 today!). Jealous of his wealth, John's companions swindled him and called him 'slow wits'. The penniless Childe of Hale returned to his village, where he died three years later. On August 23rd, he was buried at St. Mary's Church. Across the street in 1996, a statue of John was carved out of a tree trunk. It stood there until 2013, when it was replaced with a bronze statue. Height: 7 feet, 8 inches (billed as 8 ft 3)
The first of 20 kids with Métis heritage, Edouard was born in Willow Bunch, Canada. His dramatic growth started at around 3 years old. He was six feet tall by age 9! At 15, he quit his irregular schooling to become a horseman, but his height made him abandon his cowboy dreams. So instead of riding horses... he lifted them! People soon knew Edouard as the Willow Bunch Giant as he toured with various freak shows in 1902. People tried to marry him to Ella Ewing, but he was more interested in supporting his family. In Ringling Bros, he performed feats of strength, yet this didn't get in the way of his kindness. He was gentle with Louis Cyr, the strongest man in the world, and with horses at a Montana ranch. He amazed people at the 1904 World's Fair, but his spectacle wore him down each night, leading to tuberculosis. After a burning attack killed him, Edouard's body was displayed at Université de Montréal starting in 1907. His nephew, Ovila Lespérance, discovered its whereabouts in 1970 and demanded that the university cremate him, which was done on July 7th, 1990 at the Willow Bunch Museum.

Gabriel Monjane
Born: 1944
Born: January 15th, 1990
Height: 8 feet, 0.75 inches (billed as 8 ft 8.3)
Gabriel was born in Manjacaze, Mozambique (then called Portuguese East Africa). Due to a head injury at 10 or 12 years old, he grew to 7 feet 10 by the age of 17. He was studied at Lourenco Marques Central Hospital in the mid '60s. In 1969, Gabriel went on a European tour with a Portuguese circus. He enjoyed sightseeing, but didn't receive any money from these appearances. His leg problems started after a fall in 1970. In 1987, he had a successful hip replacement surgery that lengthened his left leg... and gave him a new lease on life! The good humored Gabriel was officially measured at 8 feet tall by Guinness. He attended a tallest man contest in Thailand in 1989, making friends with fellow giants Chris Greener and Surasark Sudprasert. His most consequential fall happened while fixing a roof in his backyard on January 4th, 1990.

Yaroslav Mekhaylov
Born: January 9th, 1938
Died: November 9th, 1977
Height: around 8 feet, 5 inches
Yaroslav was born in Murom, Russia. A kind and worldly person, he liked dancing, learning French and Japanese and collecting records of French folk songs. His favorite flowers were forget-me-nots, cornflowers, carnations and gladioli. From 1941 to 1944, he lived in a village that was safe from the dangers of war. When he was 8 years old, he climbed trees in an apple orchard with his sister, Ira, who was 4 years his junior. They lived with an old woman who they did housework for (and continued to see until 1957). At 13 years old, he was 7 ft 9 and picked apples from the trees since he was too tall to climb them! A year later, he fathered a son named Dmitry, who shared his love of woodcarving and fishing along the shore of the Oka River. Yaroslav's little brother, Victor, was born three years later and was interested in other countries like his brother. Yaroslav was also fond of engineering and helped with many improvement projects from ages 18 to 31. He made furniture & toys out of wood and loved making shoes for kids. He got drunk on wine on his 19th birthday and fell asleep hugging a stool! Another funny moment came in 1960, when he decided to ride an average sized bike. It rode in all directions and tossed him into the water! During his free time, he watched the Ilya Muromets movie (and lived on the same street as the hero!). He loved eating spicy kebabs in vinegar, boiled potatoes and homemade kvass. Porcelain dishes were used on even days while wooden khokhloma dishes were for odd days, which were often holidays. On New Year's Eve, he would watch his favorite comedy, Dog Barbos and Unusual Cross (which starred his fave actor, Yuri Nikulin). Every summer for 15 to 20 years, he spent the night at Lake Bolshoye Svyatoe, which is east of Murom. He and Dmitry loved gathering by the fire at night to cook, chat and play the guitar with friends. Sometimes they drank Essentuki or Barjomi mineral water. Yaroslav used a cane until he was 34, when he started using a wheelchair (which made fishing hard until Dmitry built a convenient fishing chair). He lived in a custom made house with Ira, who sewed clothes for him. She recorded his voice when he was 29 years old, preserving it after he lost it in 1976. Around that time, he visited a school. The teachers and students had never seen anyone taller than a lamppost! Some people (including his nurse) claimed he was 9 feet tall, but Ira scratched out his true height on his death certificate. Just before passing away of a heart attack, Dmitry helped his father fulfill his final wish- to see his grandchildren. Yaroslav remains a beloved figure in Murom. Since 2007, his grandson, Yura, has honored him by helping giants from all over the world!
Timofey Alexandravich
Born: September 27th, 1985
Died: May 13th, 2015
Height: 8 feet, 4 inches (estimated)
Born in a Russian village called Ileykino, Timofey was much like his birthplace- very small! At 6 years old, he was just 3 ft 9. Doctors gave him growth hormone, which made him grow past 6 and a half feet by age 12. He wanted to join the army at 17 years old, but was denied due to his height. He decided to take up beekeeping instead! A kind man with a rough voice, Timofey also loved horses and cats. He fed cats near the railway while going to work every morning. He liked picking berries with his cousins and drove a big minivan. Timofey had a ok.ru account where he posted videos of traveling to his favorite place, Orekhovo-Zuevo. His favorite holiday was Maslenitsa... or Butter Week! According to his aunt, who was also his neighbor, he enjoyed coffee with mint and butter. One rainy day after a trip to Ileykino's only grocery store, he met his untimely end when he was struck by lightning. His travel videos were deleted, but his nephew preserved them.
Andrei Melleev
Born: July 17th, 1986
Died: September 13th, 2003
Height: 9 feet, 5 inches (supposedly)
Andrei was born in the Russian port town of Primorsko-Akhtarsk. His parents had left Pripyat in Ukraine just two months before due to the nuclear disaster in Chernobyl. He was a big baby, measuring at 2 ft 3. When he was four months old, his dad passed away of cancer caused by the disaster. When Andrei was a year old, he and his mother moved to his grandmother's farm in Ogorodnyi, a village in Krasnodar Krai, Russia. He helped with the vegetable garden and took care of the dog and six barn cats. (One kitty liked to hide in his pocket!) His favorite cat was Barsik, who was called Basik because he had trouble pronouncing his r's as a little kid. In July 1990, he was examined by doctors, who noted that he had coordination issues and heterochromia. He lost movement in his legs when he was 10 years old and used a wheelchair made by a neighbor. His thermoregulation was off, so he wore a t-shirt and shorts in the winter! He was home-schooled, but he couldn't write to due his huge hands. Despite being jealous of other kids for their normal heights, Andrei was a cheerful guy who was well-liked by the villagers... even though he could frighten them and his mother at times! He liked playing the duduk, listening to trance music from PPK, talking about astrology, playing with Basik and watching TV (especially The Secret of the Third Planet) with his grandma, who sewed new clothes for him every week. He enjoyed chak-chak and tea with milk and chocolate pie for dessert. His favorite thing to do was swim in the estuary of the Sea of Azov, where he could move freely. He swam and washed himself every few days, spending two hours there in the summer. By age 15, he could no longer sit in his wheelchair because of his bones. That summer, he crawled out to the garden and gazed at the stars until dawn. In his final months, he dreamed of visiting the Caucasus. Many of Andrei's possessions were burned by his mother after his death, but his grandmother made a pair of curtains out of his T-shirt. His mother died of cancer a year after her son, who is still remembered by friends in Ogorodnyi.

Nikolai Kolya
Born: May 3rd, 1989
Height: 8 feet, 8 inches (supposedly)
Living in a town near the Ural Mountains, Nikolai has dark blonde hair and green eyes. He began to grow quickly at 8 months old, becoming a 6 footer by age 6! He attained his present height when he was 15. He was seen with four other Russian giants in the summer of 2006... and was the tallest of all of them! Although he likes to walk barefoot most of the time, he supposedly wears a size 45 sneaker. He can walk for two hours straight and likes to cross fences for fun. Children are fond of getting piggyback rides from him. Nikolai sometimes suffers from dizzy spells and achy joints, so he rests by leaning against gas pipes and sleeping on the floor during the cooler months. Six cups of kvass is his usual order, which cost 96 rubles. He loves computers and wants to be a designer or programmer. For most of 2007, a girl named Angela was his roommate. She was an inch taller than his legs and couldn't reach his elbow! His dream was to be 10 feet tall by age 22, but he's happy with his already towering height!
